Day 1
Early in the morning you will be picked up from your hotels. You'll
travel by bus through the sacred valley to km. 82, the start of the Inca
Trail. You'll walk a light hike, about 4 hours, along the Urubamba river.
You'll pass the Llaqtapata ruins before you'll arrive at the camp of Wayllabamba,
an ancient Inca citadel, that protected the entry to two valleys.
Day 2
You'll get up early and begin to climb the first pass, Warmiwañusca
(4,200 m), passing through incredible landscapes. At this pass you move
from dry puna ecology to tropical forest types. You'll see knotted trees
grow to two meters and low clouds, an overlaod of orchids and animals.
This day is known as the most difficult of the Inka trail, it is a 6 hour
walk.
Day 3
After breakfast, you will hike towards Runkuraq. You will descend to
Sayacmarca and Puyuptamarca, important archaeological complexes, where
you will have lunch. You'll spend the third and final night near the ruins
of Wiñayhuayna.
Day 4
You will leave this camp site at 4:30 in the morning. You may watch the
sunrise from Inti Punku and have a first view of Machu Picchu. You'll
arrive at Kapi at 8:00. You'll spend about 2 hours in Machu Picchu, where
the guide will explain the significance of important sites within the
Lost City of the Incas. In the afternoon, 16:10, you will take the train
from Aguas Calientes to Cusco, arriving at 20:30 approximately.
Note: There is also an option to stay an extra night in Aguas Calientes,
taking the afternoon train, 16:00 am, to Cusco.
